GMC Changes for 2024
2024 is going to be a very eventful year in terms of product for Valley GMC. The most significant change will be the new 3rd generation of the Acadia 3-row crossover. The Sierra HD gets a mid-cycle refresh, an additional model follows up on last year’s Canyon redesign, and more Hummer EV grades are available for sale in addition to some notable updates for other models.
Acadia Redesign
The Acadia returns to a full-size model for the 2024 model year and will have the same length wheelbase as the Yukon. Replacing the previous model’s V6, all Acadia models will be powered by a 2.5-liter, turbocharged inline-4 producing 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque, representing an increase of 18 horsepower and 55 lb. ft. of torque over the V6. Both exterior and interior styling will be all-new, with the latter having a considerably more upscale appearance. A 10-inch touchscreen will be standard, and the transmission control moves from the dash to a column shifter. GM’s SuperCruise will be available on the Acadia for the first time, as will a 16-speaker Bose audio system.
Sierra HD
The Sierra HD’s revised exterior is more aggressive and communicates more power under the hood, primarily from an updated 6.6-liter Duramax turbo diesel engine. Thanks to new injectors, new pistons, revised cylinder heads, and a more efficient turbocharger, power is up 25 horsepower for a total of 470, and there is a whopping 65 lb-ft increase in torque to 975 lb-ft. Both gas and diesel engines are paired with an Allison 10-speed automatic. The Denali is more luxurious than before, with softer leather and wood trim etched with topographic lines. The newly added AT4X is now available for those who want to take their big truck deeply off-road.
Canyon Updates
The Canyon’s very Off-road-focused AT4X now has an even more off-road-capable variant called the AEV Edition with wheels, skid plates, and bumpers from American Expedition Vehicles, as well as 35-inch mud-terrain tires, and a 1.5-inch lift for 12.2 inches of ground clearance. The Baja driving mode, exclusive to AT4X and AT4X AEV Edition models, incorporates a launch control system. In addition, a new AT4X AEV Edition is available. It adds another 1.5 inches of suspension lift for 12.2 inches of ground clearance.
Hummer EV
The Hummer EV SUV reaches dealers this year. It has a shorter wheelbase than the Pickup, resulting in a slightly smaller battery and improved approach, breakover, and departure angles. The 3X has a three-motor system offering a total of 830 horsepower and a maximum range of 300 miles. Using the Watts to Freedom setting, the Hummer EV SUV 3X will accelerate from 0 to 60 in about 3.5 seconds.
For the Hummer EV Pickup, the 3X model picks up after the Edition One that sold out, with three motors and 381 miles maximum driving range. An EarthCruiser camping package has overlanders in mind, with a 13.5-gallon fresh water tank with filtered water for use in an onboard sink and an outdoor shower. The package also includes an induction cooking surface, refrigerator, and freezer. Solar panels on the roof and a 6-kWh lithium-ion battery are designed to enable seven days off the grid.
Sierra 1500
The off-road-focused Sierra 1500 AT4X now has the 3.0-liter Duramax inline-6 turbo diesel as its standard engine. The most powerful version of the 2.7-liter turbo inline-4 engine is standard on the Sierra 1500 and is now called the TurboMax, featuring a new 5-year/100,000 powertrain warranty.
Sierra EV
The Sierra EV is built on the Hummer EV platform. Like the Hummer, it will first arrive in 2024 with the exclusive Edition 1 version, with Elevation and AT4 models to follow in 2025. Power will be 754 horsepower and 785 lb-ft of torque. The maximum range should be at or near 400 miles. The Hummer’s Crabwalk ability and GM’s SuperCruise will be available. Far from just a Sierra with electric motors, the Sierra EV will have its own styling and feature the Multi-Pro Mid-gate that can extend the bed into the back seat portion of the cabin. The distinctly upscale Edition 1 will feature a panoramic sunroof and a 16.8-inch touchscreen.
Terrain
Changes are few for the 2024 Terrain. Aside from new colors, a new Pro Safety Plus Package will be available, including blind-spot and rear cross-traffic warning systems.
Yukon and Yukon XL
2024 will be a full carryover year for the Yukon and Yukon XL models, as a major refresh is expected for the 2025 model year.
Valley GMC may be phasing out new Buick sales (though servicing Buick models continues), but GMC’s extensive and growing lineup will keep the showroom and inventory full. Be sure to visit Valley GMC as these new 2024 models arrive.
