While the Suburban has held down the full-size end of Chevrolet’s SUV catalog, the Yukon and Yukon XL sit atop GMC’s. Both got a significant update for the 2025 model year, which brings revised styling, new tech, and a new off-road-oriented trim level. Though the full specifications and pricing are yet to be released, we have a relatively complete picture of the latest SUVs.
Related to the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, the GMC Yukon has been in production for more than 30 years. It’s currently available with three engine choices, including a rare diesel engine that turns the family hauler into a legitimate towing machine. Now in the middle of its fifth generation, the new Yukon has modern styling but retains the cavernous interior space and capability that has endeared it to American car buyers for years.
In addition to revising the SUV’s styling, GMC gave it a new standard infotainment screen and updated safety features, including a Night Vision assistance option that displays a brightened view of the road ahead after dark.
The 2025 Yukon is available with two gas and one diesel engine option. The base mill is a 5.3-liter V8, making 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. An available 6.2-liter V8 produces 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. The range-topping diesel is a turbocharged 3.0-liter unit making 305 horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque. All engines pair with a ten-speed automatic transmission and either rear- or four-wheel drive. Both V8s come with variable valve timing and Dynamic Fuel Management.
The new Yukon features unique grille patterns, wheel choices, and lighting elements. Denali Ultimate variants have 24-inch wheels, while the AT4 Ultimate has 20-inch wheels and underbody skid plates for better off-road protection. GMC will also offer appearance packages that add blacked-out exterior trim and other touches.
The Yukon offers three rows of seating and a wealth of space. GMC offers captain’s chairs in the second row, which cuts seating to seven, but the addition allows better interior mobility and easier access to the third row. The Denali Ultimate gets open-pore, laser-etched wood accents, and 16-way powered, heated, ventilated front seats. The AT4 Ultimate gets full-grain leather upholstery and wood accents, along with a leather-wrapped steering wheel.
All 2025 Yukon and Yukon XL variants come with a new 16.8-inch touchscreen powered by Google Built-in. The tech brings several Google services, including Maps, the Play Store, and more. Other standard tech may include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, SiriusXM radio, HD radio, USB inputs, and more. The automaker hasn’t detailed all technology features yet, but it typically offers a range of upgrades, including Bose stereos, a head-up display, and other features.
The Yukon hasn’t been crash-tested in a few years, but GMC equips a long list of safety kit that bring peace of mind. New features include front pedestrian and bicyclist braking, rear cross-traffic braking, side bicyclist alerts, intersection turning automatic emergency braking, and more. GMC also offers Super Cruise, which allows hands-free driving on three-quarters of a million miles of limited-access highways across the U.S. and Canada.
The new Yukon also gets a range of trailering-specific technologies, including a transparent trailer view, blind spot steering assist with trailer coverage, a trailer path monitor, jackknife alerts, and a trailer tire air pressure monitoring system.
