What Does It Take To Service Your GMC?

May 5th, 2026 by

What does it take to become a technician at a GMC dealership? GMC technicians provide the best service to meet your vehicle’s original specifications. At Valley GMC, our technicians are also trained to service all General Motors products at our Certified Service Center. That includes Buick, Cadillac, and Chevrolet models.

The people who work on your GM vehicle are a special kind. They get the proper training and know-how to work on your vehicle. From diagnosis to final repair, they take the time to ensure that it is done right the first time.

The technicians who service your GM vehicle have the proper training to do the job. The starting point is the General Motors Automotive Service Education Program. This is a two-year associate’s degree program that combines classroom instruction with on-the-job training through paid internships at GM dealerships. Students in the program also receive a general, non-automotive curriculum in addition to their specific subject matter. This program has around 1,500 students studying at 53 schools supported by GM and select local dealerships across the U.S.A.

After completing the ASEC program, students can enter the Technician Excellence program. This provides additional opportunities to learn new skills that add more value to their jobs in the ever-changing landscape of the automotive industry. They can also earn points toward purchasing tools and other financial rewards by participating in this advanced-level program. Since it began, over 20,000 technicians have enrolled.

How do these technicians approach their jobs? They equate their jobs to how a doctor would approach a medical case. They take the time to use the tools available to them to diagnose the program. To do that, they need to be involved in the process from start to finish, repairing the issue with genuine GM parts and the right tools to make the fix work.

Technicians who studied through these programs are certified to work on your vehicle. They can do the work to make sure that the problem you are experiencing in your GM vehicle can be troubleshooted toward a long-lasting remedy. The result is confidence in our service team.
