The Hummer EV SUV Can be a Workout Partner

No matter what you do for work or play, almost all of us drive vehicles. Special interest websites and publications recognize this, and as a result, you can find automotive reviews in the most unexpected places. However, one of the most idiosyncratic reviews you’ll find on the Hummer EV SUV is on the Men’s Health website. Valley GMC shares their rather unique perspective with you. 

At their request, GMC provided a Hummer EV SUV to the Men’s Health office in New York City for three days of review. The keys were given to Ebenezer Samuel, the publication’s Fitness Director and a certified trainer, who took it on a trip upstate to visit family. In response, he wrote a review detailing how well the SUV accommodated the workout gear he brought along for the trip and how the Hummer itself became a workout device. 

The gear he bought included “a few dumbbells, a kettlebell, and a TRX (an elastic suspension device),” which could fit almost any vehicle. He adds that he could also fit a Rogue bench and some medballs if he chose. Thus, we gain unique information about how well the Hummer substitutes for the bench, providing plenty of places to lean on when rowing the dumbbells and highlighting how stable the Hummer was while doing so, even vigorously. Even more distinctive is the description of how he attached the TRX to the front tow hooks, put the vehicle in neutral, and started pulling the 8,660-pound Hummer behind him at 30-second intervals. This was accompanied by a video of him pushing the vehicle backward as well. Unsurprisingly, he finds the Hummer to be an ideal “Fitness Truck,” the type of vehicle a personal trainer could load up and take to clients’ homes or group classes in public parks.   

Ebenezer takes the time to discuss the more anticipated aspects of a vehicle review. He mentions how spacious the interior is and expresses surprise at the quality of the rear seats. He notes that the ride height is ideal for accommodating the access and egress of his 81-year-old father, who presumably did not join him in pushing or pulling the Hummer around. He also highlights the Hummer’s impressive acceleration and perfect high-speed stability. Kudos were given to the audio system and the Infiniti View roof.   

Regarding the EV aspect of the Hummer experience, he states: “The GMC Hummer EV cured my range anxiety. I’ve shied away from creating a long-term relationship with an electric since taking one up north and returning home with just eight miles left on it. Despite taking the Hummer EV north and back twice, then driving it into Manhattan (and back) later, I ended my time with it with 70 miles left.” We don’t know how many miles this involved, but he was clearly happy with the Hummer’s range. 

So, while you will have to look elsewhere for opinions on handling, braking, the infotainment interface, and specifics on real-world range and charging convenience, at least you know that a single, albeit very fit individual, can push it around a bit in a parking lot.
