The GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate Could Be the Ultimate Luxury SUV
Suppose you walked into Valley GMC and declared you wanted a vehicle that does it all. You wanted it to carry up to eight passengers comfortably and have room in the back for all their things. It will cruise up and down hills with ease and, at times, almost drive itself. You want it to be able to go off the pavement with little fuss. You also want it to tow just about anything that isn’t a fifth-wheel trailer and help you through all the tricky parts of towing. And you want it to do all this while providing extreme luxury and an outstanding audio system. You would drive out with a Yukon Denali Ultimate.
The Yukon is a full-size 3-row SUV with a lineage that goes back before most of our fathers were born. That would be 1934, to be exact, when GMC introduced its “all-steel” Carryall-Suburban. For 90 years, GMC has honed this vehicle through twelve generations, the last five with the name Yukon and Yukon XL. Each new design brought more refinement and sophistication until today, where the Yukon Denali Ultimate is one of the most luxurious all-purpose SUVs you can find.
Power Base
If a key element of luxury is effortless power, the 6.2-liter V8 delivers 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque that will calmly move the Yukon Denali up mountain roads and in the passing lanes with no fuss. Much the same can be said for the 3.0-liter Duramax inline-6 turbodiesel, which also has 460 lb-ft of torque and will get you 26 mpg on the highway and take up to 528 miles between fill-ups.
Smooth Sailing
The latest version of the MagneRide active damper system enhances the chassis. The dampers are filled with a magnetorheological fluid that instantly increases its density when within a magnetic field. The dampers can change to almost any density in a fraction of a second, allowing the Yukon to have a comfortable ride even with the available 22-inch wheels and instantly firm up when needed.
It is clear GMC has been at this for a while, as that suspension system works in perfect harmony with the steering, brakes, and 10-speed transmission. While driving on the over 400,000 miles of highway in North America, Supercruise can take over the driving with true hands-free driving and even overtake vehicles without needing your input. It really makes the Yukon one of the best cross-country cruisers you can buy.
Style that Breathes Elegance
Inside, the GMC’s experience with the Denali sub-brand luxury line becomes readily apparent. The dash has an elegant design. No pop-up screens here! The 12-inch center touch screen is fully integrated, the driver’s information center is fully digital and configurable, and a 15-inch color Head-up Display can provide a wealth of driving information as you keep your eyes on the road.
The Alpine Umber full-grain leather upholstery is rich and features a subtle embossed topographical map of the mountain that is Denali’s namesake. An 18-speaker Bose® features CenterPoint surround sound to immerse everyone in the rich sound of a recording studio.
Outside, the Denali is rich in details, such as the dark coloring for the grille and other exterior trim. Whether in 20-inch or available 22-inch sizes, the wheels are elegant, and the whole exterior carries itself with an air of dignity and little of the look-at-me flash of its Cadillac cousin.
Leaving the Road Behind
This is not a vehicle you will take rock-hopping, but it will take you to the secluded campsite and back out again with no trouble, even if it rains hard overnight. While it will never have the intimacy of a sports car, and its top doesn’t come down, the Yukon Denali Ultimate excels at pretty much anything else you can expect a vehicle to do.
