The 2024 Canyon AT4X AEV Edition Will Take You Almost Anywhere

GMC launched the completely redesigned Canyon for 2023, so you might expect changes to be minor for the following year. Instead, GMC rings in the 2024 model year with the first-ever Canyon AT4X AEV Edition, which takes Canyon off-road ability to new heights…and lows, or wherever the terrain takes you.

“GMC is giving customers the ability to forge their own path within the premium off-roading space,” said Duncan Aldred, global vice president, Buick-GMC. “GMC Sierra LD and HD AT4X AEV Editions delivered what customers were looking for in the off-roading space and now we’re applying that same formula to the next-generation Canyon.”

The first AEV Edition was introduced just last year on the Sierra 1500. But with the addition of the Canyon, they are now available across the GMC truck lineup.  As off-roading sometimes favors a smaller footprint, the Canyon AT4X may be the best AEV edition yet. AEV stands for American Expedition Vehicles, which since 1997 has become the world’s premier supplier of off-road recreational driving and overland adventure OE-quality, performance-driven aftermarket parts and accessories. GMC has teamed up with them to provide the most appropriate additions to its already impressive AT4X models.

When Too Much is Just Right

To help the Canyon become the most capable and premium off-road-focused truck in the midsize segment, the Canyon AT4X AEV Edition takes the already very capable Canyon AT4X and adds additional hardware to enhance its capability and durability for challenging off-road endeavors.  Such additions include:

• 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires with an additional AEV in-bed vertical spare tire mount
• Updated front fascia and larger fender flares to enable larger, wider tracks and ultra-high, best-in-class 12.2-inch ground clearance
• 4.5-inch (114mm) factory-installed lift — 1.5-inch (38mm) more than the Canyon AT4X
• Heavy-duty, AEV stamped-steel front and rear bumpers with heavy-duty recovery points and winch-capable front bumper
• Five ultra-high strength, hot-stamped boron steel skid plates (positioned along the radiator, steering gear, transmission and transfer case, fuel tank, and rear differential) for optimized underbody protection
• The addition of three standard auxiliary control switches enables the integration of off-road and overlanding accessories.
• Exclusive AEV beadlock-capable Salta wheels
• AEV branding across the vehicle, including on bumpers, embroidered head restraints, and all-weather floor liners

The 2024 Canyon AT4X AEV Edition claims an impressive 38.2-degree front approach angle, a 26.9-degree breakover angle, and a 26.0-degree departure angle. If those figures fall short, the AEV-stamped steel bumpers are designed for serious off-road action.  The front features integrated heavy-duty cast rear recovery points and front winch capability while providing excellent durability and corrosion resistance. The rear bumper features easily removable and reinstallation when hitting the trails.

New Invisible but Effective Technology

Also new for the 2024 model year, the Baja drive mode on both Canyon AT4X and AT4X AEV Edition has been enhanced to include a new launch control feature. It starts with the driver pressing the brake and accelerator pedals at the same time. When the brake pedal is released, the engine has set itself at the optimum rpm for the most effective take-off resulting in improved acceleration on- and off-road. The feature learns the driving surface and can adjust engine speed and torque accordingly to improve subsequent performance on future launches. In addition, all 2024 Canyons will now have the Ultifi platform as the base of its electronics system, which will enable automatic and on-demand over-the-air updates
