Technology Abounds in the 2024 GMC Acadia
The completely redesigned 2024 GMC Acadia is a significant change from the previous model—literally a big change. A previous Valley GMC blog went into detail about the new size. We will just reiterate that the Acadia has not only become a full-size 3-row crossover again, but it is one of the largest models in its class and significantly larger than competitors like the Ford Explorer, Toyota Grand Highlander, and Hyundai Palisade. This article concentrates on the technology that comes with the Acadia’s new size.
New Infotainment System
The large interior gets a 15-inch diagonal Infotainment System across the model line. Google Built-in is the operating system that brings with it several valuable technologies and features as well as quick, accurate responses. The dynamic display is only slightly taller than it is wide, resulting in a large, nearly square screen with plenty of space. Though the lower part of the screen is a large and useful power/volume knob, around which you will find permanent controls for instant response on several functions. This includes two rows of control displays for the climate control system, with the lower row operated by an attractive bank of physical controls.
One of the most useful apps is the Google Maps navigation system, which is present without any smartphone connection. The world’s most loved navigation system is accurate, includes traffic color-coded maps, and prompts to reroute you if your previous route has built up with traffic congestion and faster routes are available. The Google Assistant voice recognition system is also standard, and you will find it much superior at understanding your commands than previous in-vehicle voice-activated systems. The system is fully compatible with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, both of which connect wirelessly, freeing you from forgetting to disconnect and take your phone with you when you leave.
HD Surround Vision
You may be surprised to find that all models have standard HD Surround Vision, which provides a view of all around the vehicle, with the ability to select each view specifically. With it, you can spot anything you cannot see out of the windows from the driver’s seat. You can also choose dynamic guidelines to show your heading, whether forward or reverse. There are more cameras to assist you if you opt for the digital rearview mirror, which gives you a pillar-free view behind you, or Trailer Assist, which assists you with towing.
Safety and Driver Assist
There are at least 15 technologies devoted to active safety and driver assistance. In addition to the above-mentioned HD Surround Vision, these features include:
- Blind Zone Steering Assist
- Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking
- Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist
- Following Distance Indicator
- Forward Collision Alert
- Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking
- Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking
- Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning
- Rear Cross Traffic Braking
- Rear Park Assist
- Reverse Automatic Braking
- Safety Alert Seat
- Side Bicyclist Alert
- Traffic Sign Recognition
Available SuperCruise
As the Acadia is likely to be your top choice as a road trip vehicle, the most significant driver-assist technology may be the spectacular GM SuperCruise system, which is available on every Acadia model. When on a highway mapped into the system, SuperCruise offers true hands-free driving even when passing a vehicle or towing a trailer. (though you can’t pass hands-free while towing a trailer). This is not limited to interstates. As of the beginning of 2024, over 400,000 highways have been mapped for the system, with up to 720,000 expected by the end of the year, which includes a large number of rural two-lane highways.
Big in size and big in technology, the Acadia should be at the top of your 3-row crossover list. Come to Valley GMC in Auburn, WA, and see what the Acadia’s size and technical sophistication can do for you.
