Five Things Customers Will Love About The Roomy New 2024 GMC Acadia

July 15th, 2024 by

In a recent test drive review of the all-new 2024 GMC Acadia by Freep, also called The Detroit Free Press, the author came away with lots of positive thoughts and feelings surrounding the latest upgrades and updates that will be perfect for families. Between its three rows of usable seats, including for adults, its new engine, and the high-quality interior materials, the latest Acadia is a win-win for GMC and customers alike.

A Size Advantage

After spending only a couple of days in South Carolina with the new GMC SUV, Mark Phelan, the reviewer, piloted both the Denali and AT4 trim levels. He started out highlighting the fact that the Acadia has not only grown from the 2023 model but also takes that extra size even further against the competition: “The 2024 is a return to the nameplate’s roots as a family hauler: 204 inches long — 5.3 inches longer than a Ford Explorer, 7.3 more than a Hyundai Palisade and 2.6 more than a Toyota Grand Highlander. In addition to a 23% increase in cargo space behind the rear seat, the 2024 Acadia has the most second-row legroom in its class, according to GMC’s figures.”

An Interior To Rule Them All

The interior is one of the key relationships buyers will have with the latest Acadia, according to Mr. Phalen. GMC took time to make sure everything had the right proportions for kids, teens, all the way up to adults: “Interior room and accommodations are excellent. The second row captains chairs in the Acadias I drove were comfortable and access to the rear seat was simple, either between the second-row seats or by tipping and sliding them forward. You can tip and slide the second row seats without removing a forward-facing child seat. The rear seat is more than acceptable for two adults and can hold three. On long drives, I’d probably use it and turn the second-row seats into foot stools. The Denali is very quiet, thanks to acoustically treated windshield and front side windows and other sound absorbing material.”

Trim Levels, Engine, and Towing Capacity

Buyers are able to choose between three different trim levels for the 2024 Acadia, including Elevation, AT4, and Denali. The Elevation and Denali trims are standard with front-wheel drive but can be optioned with all-wheel drive, while the AT4 is only available in AWD. All models get a potent 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that produces 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. When properly equipped, the Acadia can tow up to 5,000 lbs.

Not Just Some Pretty SUV, This One Works Off-Road

While it’s easy for many modern vehicles to look the part with heavy-duty-looking panels, but when it comes time to walk the off-road walk, they don’t pass muster. The Acadia isn’t just another SUV that claims to have an off-road presence but can barely drive through a 3-inch puddle without all of the safety systems flashing warning lights at you. No, the all-new GMC is meant to be used in a large variety of conditions, giving all types of customers an SUV that can perform for them when they need it: “The AT4 surprised me in a very brief off-road demo. Its dual-clutch rear axle, which can direct full torque to whichever rear wheel has traction, allowed the SUV to easily negotiate ruts and rises that lifted either rear wheel into the air. The electronic traction control managed wheelspin to all four wheels for satisfying performance on soft sand, where some wheelspin is desirable. The driving modes also affect steering feel and transmission shift points for optimal performance.”

Author’s Conclusion

The author said in his conclusion that the Acadia is a bright spot in a big group of SUVs, saying, “The 2024 GMC Acadia brings surprising off-road capability to a class of vehicles whose styling often makes promises their mechanical systems can’t keep. Add three rows of useful seats, modern connectivity and features like Super Cruise for hands-free highway driving and you’ve got an attractive player in a crowded segment.” Those sound like great reasons to buy one for yourself.
