​​Summer Travel Made Easier with GMC’s Trailering Technology​

Are you ready for a great summer vacation with your travel trailer? Hitching up to a camper or boat trailer is a first step towards enjoying your vacation, perhaps somewhere here in the Pacific Northwest or beyond. Thankfully, GMC has made it easier to safely and correctly connect and use a trailer thanks to its latest trailering technologies. 
It all begins with the ProGrade Trailering System, which incorporates several innovative features that make using a trailer a little less intimidating. First, you gain the ability to create multiple trailer profiles within your truck, based on the trailer type and hitch design. This in-vehicle trailering app can also include an integrated trailer light test, maintenance reminders for the trailer, and step-by-step pre-departure checklists. 

On select GMC models, the ProGrade Trailering System may also include a set of cameras and tire pressure sensors for installation on your own trailers, allowing you to keep closer tabs on your trailer while you’re en route.

Depending on the model, available Safety Plus packages may offer extensions of familiar safety features – like lane keep assist, for instance – that are specifically calibrated to accommodate the additional length of your vehicle.

If all of that doesn’t seem as if GMC’s taken most of the work out of towing, look no further than the Super Cruise hands-free driver assistance technology. Available on select models, this system may also include the ability to accommodate hands-free trailering on select roads. 

These technologies are important tools that you will need when you are towing a trailer with your GMC. However, there are a few things you will need to do to ensure a safe trip.  

First, please stay within your vehicle’s limits. Your GMC has both a maximum towing limit and a Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR). Those numbers have been set per vehicle based on a set specification based on its maximum capabilities. If you can keep everything well within limits, you will have a successful trip with your trailer hitched to your GMC.  

Knowing your GMC’s GCWR will help you pack your truck and trailer properly. Do not overload it with everything you want to take on your trip. Pack with plenty of balance – including your GMC vehicle.  

Even if your GMC is equipped with the ProGrade Trailering app, you still want to check your tires, lights, and brakes on your trailer and your tow vehicle. Doing so before you depart will ease some stress knowing that everything will be working as they should as you take on th road.  

Lastly, please know your surroundings whenever you are on the road or maneuvering into a parking space or campsite. The extra length of your combined GMC vehicle and trailer can be quite the challenge when you are traveling. Situational awareness is important when you are on the road – or parked.
