With the Edition 1 models sold out for both the Hummer EV Pickup and EV SUV, attention now turns to the 3X trim levels, which are just one step down from the Edition 1, will be the next available trims for both model lines, and the first to enter as part of the Valley Buick GMC inventory.

EV3X Pickup

The EV3X Pickup does not stray far from the standard set by the Edition 1. Both have three identical motors with one in front and two in the rear, and thus have the same collective 1,000 horsepower and 11,000 lb-ft of wheel torque (after reduction gears). The Edition 1 comes standard with several items that are optional on the 3X. Two of the most noticeable are the removable Sky Panels, which stow in the frunk and basically make the Truck look like a convertible with a roll cage, and the Extreme Off-Road Package, which includes the following:

  • Additional underbody cameras
  • Additional skid plates
  • Rocker protection with built-in assist steps
  • 18-inch wheels with 35-inch Mud-Terrain tires.

With 18-inch wheels and 35-inch tires, the Edition 1 Pickup has an estimated range of 329 miles.  As mentioned, the EV3X is available with this package as well, but without it rides on  22-inch tires and 35-inch All-Terrain tires.  That smaller sidewall and less chunky tread increase the EV3X range to 355 miles.  It also increases the maximum towing capacity from 7,500 to 8,500 pounds.

The GMC HUMMER EV SUV completes the HUMMER EV family and features a 126.7-inch wheelbase for tight proportions and a maneuverable body, providing remarkable on- and off-road capability.

The Hummer EV SUV also has a sold-out Edition 1 trim, followed in production by an EV3X SUV trim.  The EV3X has the same 3-motor drivetrain as the Edition 1  The SUV has a 9-inch shorter wheelbase than the Pickup.  This improves its maneuverability both off-road and in parking lots, but it does reduce the number of battery cells from 24 to 20.  This is accompanied by slightly reduced power output as the 3-motor EV SUV is rated at “only” 830 horsepower though overall torque at the wheels remains at 11,500 lb-ft.  The EV SUV Extreme Off-Road Package contains much of the same features as on the EV Pickup, but in this case, it is an option on both the Edition 1 and EV3X models. The standard estimated range for both trims is 314 miles, which drops to 298 with the Extreme Off-Road Package.

CrabWalk and WTF to be Standard on EV3X Models

Detail shot of the 2023 GMC HUMMER EV Edition 1 Pickup tires on a dirt road. The 2023 HUMMER EV Edition 1 Pickup builds upon GM’s Continuous Damping Control with Adaptive Ride Control technology and can “read” the road every 2 milliseconds.

High-profile features that will be standard on all Edition 1 and EV3X trims for both the Pickup and SUV include 4 Wheel Steer, which tightens turning radii. 4 Wheel Steer also enables CrabWalk, which turns the rear wheels up to 10 degrees in the same direction as the front wheels to let the vehicle move diagonally around obstacles.  Edition 1 and EV3X models also come standard with the Watts to Freedom (WTF) feature, which is essentially a power-boosted launch control.  When you press on both the brake and accelerator pedals, WTF lowers the body height two inches and stiffens the front and rear dampers to minimize body weight shift.  When you release the brake pedal, extra current flow is unlocked from the motors and inverters to result in a 0-60 time of just over 3 seconds, which borders on preposterous given the size of these vehicles.

3X trims of both the Pickup and SUV models should be trickling into the Valley Buick GMC showroom by the time you read this.  If they aren’t, simply contact one of our sales professionals for an expected date of arrival.
