Sierra 2500 HD First Drive

Heavy-duty trucks aren’t just the chariots of muddy construction workers anymore. They’ve become just as luxurious and packed with tech as the light-duty trucks that dominate our roads. The GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali Ultimate may have one of the longest names in the truck game, but it previews a super high-end HD pickup with capability for days.

While GMC offers the 6.6-liter turbodiesel V8 as an option in other Sierra 2500HD trims, the mill comes standard for the Denali Ultimate. It makes 470 horsepower and a whopping 975 pound-feet of torque, which reaches all four wheels through an Allison ten-speed automatic transmission. That powertrain gives the truck a best-in-class tow rating of up to 21,900 pounds, which extends to 22,500 pounds with the available max towing package.

The Denali Ultimate’s cabin comes wrapped in premium leather, and the truck offers heated and ventilated front seats with heated rear outboard seats. GMC equips 60/40 folding rear seats, seatback storage on both sides of the rear, and an under-seat storage bin that extends the width of the cab. The front seats also include power lumbar and massage and come with 16-way power adjustability.

Technology also takes center stage, with a 13.4-inch touchscreen running Google built-in. The interface brings several Google-powered features, including Maps, Google Assistant, the Play Store, and more. Additionally, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard. GMC also includes SiriusXM radio, a 12-speaker Bose audio system, a Kicker audio system built into the MultiPro tailgate, Bluetooth, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a head-up display. The Denali Ultimate comes with a 12.3-inch configurable digital gauge cluster, allowing the driver to choose the information they want to see.

GMC includes several standard safety features, but some come in options packages. Automatic emergency braking, front pedestrian braking, front and rear parking assistance, an HD surround-view camera, a bed-view camera, forward collision warnings, lane departure warnings, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts and trailer coverage, buckle-to-drive, and more come standard.

Pricing for the 2024 GMC Sierra 2500HD Denali Ultimate starts at $94,895. Buyers can upgrade the truck with options and packages, including a cargo convenience group, a snow plow prep package, a trailering package, and various cargo and bed upgrades.
