An Incredible Caliber of Colleagues

Now, you probably have a lot of questions. For starters, “How is this possible?” Well, truth be told, GM has some very powerful partners on its side. Namely, this endeavor is a massive collaboration with six of the biggest players in the automotive space: BMW Group, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz Group, and Stellantis NV. Needless to say, with such an incredible caliber of colleagues, anything is possible; and, on a related note, all seven automakers are determined to prove exactly that.

What are the Goals of This Joint Venture?

So, with all of that in mind, what are the goals of this joint venture? Well, simply put, GM and its collaborators want to deliver the best possible customer experience to EV owners all across the continent. To that end, all seven manufacturers are working together to develop, create, and install an unprecedented network of next-generation charging stations. Furthermore, in order to help as many EV owners as possible, these charge points will need to be as plentiful as possible. In other words, they will need to cover the entirety of North America; or, at least, come as close as humanly possible. So, how will they do this? What will the network look like? And when can we expect this vision to become a reality?

How Will They Do This?

Starting in the summer of 2024, GM and its partners will begin the rollout of more than 30,000 North American units. Better yet, every single station will offer both Combined Charging System (CCS) and North American Charging Standard (NACS) connectors, which can collectively charge all EV models currently on the market. Last but not least, built with the customer’s experience in mind, every unit will have various amenities, unparalleled reliability, state-of-the-art digital integration, and, of course, next-generation charging capabilities.

A Perfect Starting Point

As for where to find them, the primary places will be in urban settings and major highways, thereby reaching the majority of modern EV owners. While many more locations are on the way, this is a perfect starting point for most members of the EV community. Rest assured, this is just the beginning. Over the course of the next few years, GM and its collaborators will take this model and expand it internationally, eventually creating an EV charging network all around the world. In short, the future is electric; and, once again, GM is making automotive history.
