Five Things You Will Immediately Like About the 2024 Canyon

The Canyon midsize pickup was redesigned for 2023, and some trim levels were added for 2024. The redesign was in the midst of renewed attention to the mid-size truck market, which saw updates of most models in the segment within two years. For the midsize truck shopper, Valley GMC points out the five topmost highlights of the Canyon.

Class-Leading Interior

Most of the time spent with any vehicle is inside the cabin, so GMC made sure that the Canyon dash and cabin are pleasing to the eye. The dash features an upscale horizontal layout that is sensible and easy to use. The 11.3-inch center touchscreen isn’t standing out on its own like a misplaced tablet but instead, integrated with the instrument cluster binnacle. This puts it on the same horizontal plane as the gauges for quick scanning from one to another.  Below is a bank of physical controls for the climate control system, with another attractive bank of secondary controls below. 

Brushed chrome trim defines every important section of the dash and stylish 4-spoke steering wheel. A two-tone interior available on most models raises the aesthetic appeal even further. You don’t have to opt for the Denali for a luxurious interior, but if you do, the details, such as the laser-etched wood and quilted padded accents, are stunning.

Advanced Technology

Thanks to the Google Built-in operating system, the 11.3-inch touch screen is quick to respond and easy to use. That system enables Google Maps and Google Speak apps to be standard on all models with additional access to other apps from the Google Play Store. If you use your phone app system instead, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity is standard on all models. No longer will you leave your phone in the truck because you forgot to disconnect it before you left.

The technology extends to several standard safety and driver assist features such as Forward Collision Alert, Following Distance Indicator, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, among other features.

Impressive Power

The original 2004 Canyon’s base engine produced 175 hp and 185 lb-ft of torque. By comparison, the 2024 Canyon’s turbocharged 2.7-liter inline-4 engine that powers the entire model line produces 308 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque, which is noticeably more potent than the previous model’s V6. Also standard on all models is an 8-speed automatic transmission that keeps the engine running at the right revs for all occasions. The Elevation is available in Rear-wheel or available four-wheel drive. All other trims have four-wheel drive as standard.

Quality Ride and Handling

The Canyon’s suspension tuning results in a surprisingly comfortable and quiet ride on the highway with a good sense of control when the road gets twisty. It won’t be mistaken for a sports car, but the Canyon gives a sense of confidence and is reasonably quiet even with the all-terrain tires of the AT4 and AT4X models. The brakes, which feature Duralife rotors, are designed to provide quiet operation with little vibration.

Confidence Inspiring

The Canyon is designed to provide excellent visibility from the driver’s seat. The lifted AT4 and AT4X models offer a commanding view and actually sit higher than the standard Sierra 1500.
