Edmunds Reviews the 2026 GMC Sierra 2500HD 

There are many reasons to own a Sierra 1500, whether for weekend projects, towing a boat, camping, or other activities. It’s not just a lifestyle vehicle, as many Sierra 1500s are currently on job sites. Valley GMC guarantees that the Sierra 1500 can handle tough work. But it does have its limits. In its review, Edmunds.com describes the Sierra 2500 HD as “sitting between light-duty pickups and commercial-grade haulers.” At one time, HD trucks ventured little past commercial-grade accommodations.  That is a nice way of saying that the people buying weren’t the ones expected to drive it, and those driving it were being paid to do so, so they have little cause for complaint.  

But it turns out that people who shell out over six figures for a fifth-wheel trailer and haul multiple horses to shows or multiple cars to races like to be comfortable in their hauler. In addition, the 4-door crew cabs (2-door cabs and extended cabs are also available) can make these big trucks a big family hauler. That may seem like a lot of truck to haul people, but it beats buying another vehicle just to be comfortable. Still, these trucks are meant to haul. The 2-door cab is paired exclusively with an 8.1-foot bed. The extended and crew cabs are available with either that or the standard 6.8-foot bed if you prefer your truck not stretch from driveway to driveway in front of your home. 

Edmunds found the SLT trim, third from the bottom and fifth from the top, to be their sweet spot. “With heated leather seats, fatigue-reducing steering assistance, and high-def camera views, it delivers on the Sierra’s promise of hard-working luxury without committing to the off-road-oriented AT4 or high-class (and high-price) Denali trims. All-terrain tires and a useful trailering app also enhance the SLT’s capability.” The SLT is also the highest trim before the model line begins specializing, such as off-road ability for the popular AT4 trim or posh luxury in the form of the Denali and Denali Ultimate. They also like that it includes a camera view system that helps you see “through” the tall hood to view what is directly in front of the truck.
