2024 Sierra HD Gets the AT4X and AEV Treatment

The Sierra 1500 AT4X has been such a success that the new Canyon will get an AT4X version, and it has now been announced that there will be an AT4X of the 2024 Sierra HD. The Premium off-roading idea is the same but now with heavy-duty capability. The Sierra HD AT4X can be expected to arrive at Valley Buick GMC and dealers across the country later this year..

The HD AT4X model is configured as a Crew Cab with a standard bed and, obviously, 4-wheel drive. Its standard engine will be the 6.6-liter gas V-8, capable of 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque. Combined with the standard Allison 10-speed automatic, this enables a 3,291 maximum payload capacity and towing of 16,000 pounds on the ball and 18,000 pounds for a fifth-wheel gooseneck hookup. 

6.6, Take Your Pick

Optional is the 6.6-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel, also mated to the Allison 10-speed. Enhanced for 2024, the Duramax will produce 470 horsepower and a whopping 975 lb-ft of torque. Payload is down a bit with the Duramax at 3,068 pounds, but conventional trailering is up to 18,500 pounds. Maximum fifth-wheel capacity is down slightly to 17,300 pounds. There is plenty of trailering technology to help you as well, including 14 available camera views, including Transparent Trailer View, Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert, and Adaptive Cruise Control with Trailering. 

Leave that Road Way Behind

But that’s all on-road business. To enhance the off-road capability the AT4X name is known for,  the trim adds:

• 1.5-inch lift and Multimatic DSSV dampers
• 18-inch aluminum wheels wearing 35-inch Goodyear Territory tires
• Enhanced front upper and lower control arms
• Strengthened steering knuckles.
• 11.6-inch ground clearance
• 31.6° / 21.2° / 25.7° approach / breakover / departure angles
• Off-Road mode enhancement that optimizes the anti-lock brakes, traction control, and stability control for off-road conditions.

ATX4 is as about making things as nice on the inside as it is about dealing with the ruggedness outside. Full-grain leather seats massage you as you gaze at Vanta Ash wood trim and listen to digital surround sound, enhancing your favorite tunes courtesy of Centerpoint technology on the 12-speaker Bose Premium Series audio system. Information comes your way not only through the 12.3-inch information center and 13.4-inch infotainment screen but also with a configurable 15-inch head-up display.

Like the Sierra 1500, there is an additional AEV Edition, which adds some tasty bits from the American Expedition Vehicles catalog such as:

• Stamped steel bumpers with integrated recovery points and front winch integration
• Hot-stamped boron steel skid plates protecting the steering gear, transfer case, and other components
• 18-inch Salta wheels with AEV’s signature recessed valve stems
• 11.7-inch ground clearance
• 29.8° / 22.6° / 25.7° approach / breakover / departure angles. 

Pricing for the 2024 Sierra HD AT4X and AT4X AEV have not yet been announced, but figures can likely be expected in early summer.
