The 2026 GMC Terrain AT4 is Put to the Test

When it comes to SUVs, GMC has a great range available for every kind of lifestyle. For those of us who are active in the great outdoors, only one badge says it all: AT4.
For 2026, GMC added an AT4 model to the new Terrain. It combines the efficiency, space, and technology found on our newest SUV with that rugged look and feel you expect from a GMC.
The 2026 Terrain can seat five comfortably. Front passengers get heated seats, while the driver enjoys a standard heated steering wheel, along with an 11-inch diagonal digital Driver Information Center. The hub for all connectivity and some controls are found on the 15-inch diagonal Premium GMC Infotainment System touchscreen. It is driven by Google Built-in, where its apps and vehicle functions can be accessed through Google Assistant’s natural voice recognition feature. You can also tether your smartphone wirelessly, along with mirroring through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A wireless charging pad is also standard.

Every Terrain is built to keep you safe. That is why there are over 16 standard safety and driver assistance features, including Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Collision Alert. Also, a high-definition rear-view camera, along with seven additional views, is available on the center display touchscreen.
Stepping into the AT4 adds more to your driving excitement on and off the highway. This grade transforms the 2026 Terrain into something you take deep into the Cascades or the forest on the other side of the Sound. It now includes a lifted ride height, red recovery hooks, a front skid plate with a steel underbody shield, a selectable Terrain mode, and a set of 17-inch Dark Machined aluminum wheels mounted with all-terrain tires.
You can add more features to make your 2026 Terrain AT4 unique. Available features include a two-tone roof and a panoramic sunroof.
As with every 2026 Terrain, the AT4 is powered by a 174-horsepower 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. With standard all-wheel drive, the AT4 can put down 203 pound-feet of torque channeled through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Autoblog recently reviewed the new 2026 Terrain AT4. They used the keyword “versatility” to sum up their impressions of this SUV. They added that it was “comfortable on the road, competent on light trails, easy to drive in the city, pleasantly quiet at speed, and better put together than I expected.” We should also mention that they reviewed the 2026 Terrain AT4 right here in the Pacific Northwest – a plus for us who are interested in owning one and putting it through its paces.
