Take The 2025 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition to the Xtreme

If there is one pickup truck that is made for adventure, it would be the 2025 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition. It is built to navigate deeper into the forest and over any rough terrain you may encounter along the way. The team at Off-Road Xtreme put one to the test to see if it can tackle the rugged country.
A 2025 Canyon AT4X gets the American Expedition Vehicles treatment, starting with the DSSV Multimatic dampers, along with front and rear locking differentials on the standard AT4X. AEV adds a set of 35-inch Goodyear Territory MT tires on beadlock-capable 17-inch AEV Salta wheels. Exterior enhancements are added with wider fender flares, a modified front fascia with steel front and rear bumpers, and recovery points. You can add a winch to the front bumper, as it was built to take one. Boron steel skid plates protect the entire underside of the 2025 Canyon AT4X AEV Edition.

With these modifications, the 2025 Canyon AT4X AEV Edition now features a 12.2-inch ground clearance. It also exhibits impressive approach, departure, and breakover angles of 38.2 degrees, 26 degrees, and 26.9 degrees, respectively.
Underneath the hood lies a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. This is connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission, which is in turn connected to the Autotrac four-wheel drive system through a two-speed transfer case.
You can also select specific drive modes for further adventure, including Terrain, Off-Road, and Baja. Off-Road Extreme explains these modes the best: “Terrain mode uses the brakes (like hill descent mode) to manage vehicle speed in both forward and reverse, allowing the driver to use one pedal (the throttle) to control the vehicle. Off-road mode is intended for general off-road use. Baja calibrates the electronics for higher speeds and more slip angle before intervention.”
The 2025 Canyon AT4X AEV Edition is truly made for the trail. Off Road Xtreme points out that “[a]fter noticing just how dialed-in the Multimatic suspension felt on the street—we couldn’t wait to hit the dirt. Once on the trail, we immediately encountered steep motorcross-style berms. Upon traversing the berm, the frontend popped up into the air, nosed over, and followed with a softly cushioned landing. It was so smooth it didn’t even feel like we reached the bumpstops. That, of course, was an open invitation to drive a bit faster.”

The ultimate agility achieved in the 2026 Canyon AT4X AEV Edition is not just seen on the trail. As Off Road Xtreme reports, “[o]n the street, these dampers do an excellent job smoothing out the rough spots. On hard-edged pavement potholes, the AT4X transfers very little of the impact up to the driver. It also never feels too soft and doesn’t roll excessively in corners. Thanks in large part to the impressive DSSV dampers, this is one off-road truck that you could have fun hustling up a canyon road.”
No matter where you take the 2026 Canyon AT4X AEV Edition, it is “one very impressive off-road machine,” according to Off Road Xtreme
