GMC has brought the same professional-grade engineering and craftsmanship that have distinguished its trucks from its SUVs. From compact to full-size-plus, GMC has an SUV to fit your daily needs and awaken your sense of adventure. For those unfamiliar with the differences among the models, Valley GMC provides this quick rundown of the GMC SUV lineup.

Terrain: Compact Crossover

GMC crossovers start at the compact level with the Terrain. There is a class of smaller crossovers, but GMC considers the compact segment a more appropriate size for delivering GMC brand values. The Terrain has a relatively small footprint in terms of both presence and operating costs, yet it still provides seating for five passengers and 29.8 cubic feet of cargo space behind them. When the second-row seat is unoccupied, the cargo area expands to 63.5 cubic feet.

Power comes from a small yet powerful 1.5-liter inline-4 that delivers 175 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, paired with a continuously variable transmission, delivering EPA-estimated city/highway/combined mpg of 26/28/27. On AWD models, torque rises to 203 lb-ft, and the engine is paired with a conventional 8-speed automatic with an EPA estimate of up to 24/28/25. As with all GMC models, the AT4 trim adds increased off-road capability, while the Denali is full of luxury accoutrements.

Acadia: Mid-size Three-Row Crossover

The Acadia is built for the growing family. With seating for up to eight (or seven with second-row captain’s chairs), there is room for a big family or a smaller one with friends on long trips. With 32.1 to 33.1 inches of legroom, even third-row passengers will be comfortable for the long haul. When hauling cargo, the Acadia is large for its class, offering up to 97.5 cubic feet with second- and third-row seatbacks folded. With just the third seat folded, that is 57.3 cubic feet on hand – more than enough to cover the luggage needs of five passengers, and with all seats up, there remains 23 cubic feet.

All models are well equipped with a standard 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, a 15-inch center touchscreen powered by the Google Built-in operating system, and an 11-inch configurable digital gauge cluster for the driver.  Power comes from a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-4 producing an impressive 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque.  Towing capacity is up to 5,000 pounds. The industry-leading Super Cruise Hands-Free is available across the model line.

Yukon & Yukon XL:  Full-Size SUVs

Derived from the original big SUV, the Yukon and Yukon XL are built primarily on the Sierra 1500 truck platform, though with significant differences.  The models have an independent rear suspension for improved highway ride. “Big” is the name of the game here, with the Yukon capable of 122.8 cubic feet of cargo space while the Yukon XL provides 144.7 cubic feet.  Third-row passengers enjoy 34.9 inches of legroom, while the XL offers nearly two inches more at 36.7 inches.

The Yukon comes standard with a 5.3-liter V8, producing 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. For more performance, there is the 6.2-liter V8, which delivers 420 horsepower and 495 lb-ft of torque. Finally, there is the 305-hp 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel, which produces 495 lb-ft of torque at a low 1500 rpm, making it the ideal engine for towing, with a capacity of up to 8,200 pounds.

Hummer EV SUV: Full-Size Electric SUV

The Hummer EV SUV combines impressive off-road capability with the efficiency, silence, zero emissions, and extraordinary performance of a two- or three-motor drivetrain. This large five-passenger SUV has an estimated range of up to 319 miles between charges. Power figures are through the roof, with a standard 570-hp and 7,400 lb-ft of torque. With the off-road package, these figures can climb to 635-hp and 9,900 lb-ft. Three-motor models bump this to 830 hp and 11,200 lb-ft of torque. The Hummer is a silent off-road monster, with minimal overhangs and a standard ride height of approximately 10.01 inches. With active air suspension, it can increase to 11.9 inches in terrain mode and reach nearly 16 inches in Extract mode.

Featuring a flat floor, the Hummer EV offers plenty of room for its five passengers and 35.9 cubic feet of cargo space in the back. When the rear seats aren’t needed, there is 81.8 cubic feet behind the front seat, plus an additional 11.3 cubic feet of space in the “frunk” under the hood. Designed with enjoyment in mind, the Hummer even approaches convertible status with an available set of four removable roof panels for open-air driving.
