How Much Can The GMC Acadia Tow?
GMC has made the 2024 Acadia all-new from the ground up. This means the newer, better Acadia was built to give customers more of what was already great about the previous Acadia: a new engine, better technology and safety features, an overall larger interior and exterior, and a new style that brings the crossover more in line with the flagship Yukon and Sierra models.
Trim Levels
The new Acadia offers three trim levels: the base Elevation, AT4, and Denali. The Elevation and Denali trims are standard with front-wheel drive but can be optioned with all-wheel drive, while the AT4 is AWD-only.
All-New Engine and Exclusive Features
The 2023 Acadia had a turbocharged 4-cylinder for lower trim levels and a V6 for the higher trims. The updated 2024 Acadia models get a 2.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that produces 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque while being paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, far exceeding the previous model’s performance. When choosing the Acadia AT4, buyers will get an exclusive off-road-capable Active Torque Control AWD system to complement the AT4’s all-conditions and terrain usability.
New Towing Capacity
The 2023 GMC Acadia could tow either 1,000 lbs or as much as 4,000 lbs when equipped with a trailering package. However, with the upgraded engine, suspension, and size comes extra towing capacity. When properly equipped, the base FWD and AWD Acadia Elevation can tow up to 1,500 lbs. Adding the Trailering Equipment Package or getting a trim with that as a standard feature allows the Acadia to tow as much as 5,000 lbs. Don’t forget to always make sure to load your trailer up correctly.
GMC Towing Recommendations
Even though the new Acadia can tow quite well with a large weight capacity, GMC recommends not towing anything for the first 500 miles of ownership of a 2024 Acadia. You should also change your engine oil before towing and try not to go over 50 mph for the first 500 miles of towing anything just to let the vehicle break-in properly during the first few times towing.
Important Details
According to GMC, it is also important to note that owners should deactivate Park Assist, Reverse Automatic Braking, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Lane Change Alert, and unless your Acadia is equipped with the extra trailering functionality, Adaptive Cruise Control should also be turned off.
GM Super Cruise
For the first time ever, the all-new 2024 Acadia can be optioned with GM Super Cruise, the brilliant hands-free driver assistance software. However, if you are using an aftermarket trailer brake controller, GMC advises turning Super Cruise off before using the brake controller, and you should not use automatic lane change with Super Cruise when towing.
Base Price and Cargo Space
With a base MSRP of $43,995, the new Acadia also has 80% more cargo space behind the third row than before, with 23 cu.ft. Folding the third row down will give buyers 57.3 cu.ft., and folding the second row opens the vehicle up to have 97.5 cu.ft. of total cargo capacity.
