How did the 2026 GMC Sierra EV AT4 do in Winter Testing?

Testing an electric vehicle in winter is always a challenge. It goes beyond how the battery recharges at colder temperatures or how much range you lose in everyday driving. It is about how well it can handle the snow, ice, and freezing rain we get here in the Puget Sound area. In a recent test at Autoblog, the new 2026 GMC Sierra EV AT4 was put through its paces in these conditions. How well did it do?
First off, the AT4 trim is new for 2026. It offers the capability and ruggedness found on other AT4 models across the GMC lineup. It comes with a standard 625-horsepower two-motor set-up using GMC’s e-AWD system with a massive 775 pound-feet of torque. A four-wheel-steer system, including Crab Walk, achieves maximum maneuverability. You can maneuver through situations that require your 2026 Sierra EV AT4 to go diagonally, as well as creating tighter turns in smaller areas.
Each 2026 Sierra EV AT4 rides on a two-inch lift for greater ground clearance off the highway. A set of 35-inch all-terrain tires on 18-inch machine-finished alloy wheels were made for getting through unplowed roads in the winter, while delivering grip the rest of the year on rugged trails and gravel byways. To accomplish traversing more challenging surfaces, there is Terrain mode, which maximizes grip in those conditions.
The Super Cruise hands-free driver assistance technology comes standard with a three-year OnStar One plan. When driving on compatible roads, this technology lets you keep your hands off the steering wheel, enabling the 2026 Sierra EV AT4 to follow the road safely and securely. That also includes curvy sections of the highway.

Autoblog’s test vehicle was equipped with the Extended Range battery, with a rated maximum range of 390 miles. You can return energy to the battery pack and the 670-volt charging infrastructure via DC Fast Charging at up to 300 kilowatts.
Technology is what truly makes the 2026 Sierra EV AT4. Front and center is a 16.8-inch diagonal advanced color touchscreen that serves as a hub for Google Built-in and services, including voice commands and navigation. It also houses multiple camera views, including a trailer view.
We would also point out how versatile the 2026 Sierra EV AT4 truly is. The standard MultiPro Tailgate provides both loading and cargo management. An available MultiPro Midgate extends your cargo bed for longer items.
So far, it looks like the right package for Autoblog to use to put the 2026 Sierra EV AT4 to the test. After a snowfall of almost a foot, they said that the Sierra EV AT4’s “tall clearance and all-wheel drive traction provided confidence. It proved quite capable of getting through bad roads and negotiating an awful parking lot at my daughter’s swim meet.”

If the Extended Range battery is not enough, you can upgrade to the Max Range battery pack. It provides an 800-volt charging infrastructure, with charging up to 350 kilowatts at a DC Fast Charger. There is an increase in horsepower and torque, along with a longer available range of 479 miles.
