CrabWalk Is More Than a Gimmick
Have you ever wondered if a vehicle could move in a totally unconventional way, a different direction completely? Not just around the corner or a sharp turn up in the mountains, but laterally, sideways, diagonally? GMC came up with a clever way to do exactly that. It is called CrabWalk, and if you’re envisioning a crab staggering to the left and then the right, you’re on the right track.
This unique feature enables the 2025 GMC Hummer EV Pickup truck, Hummer EV SUV, or Sierra EV to slowly get around obstacles at a diagonal angle, with all four wheels moving in the same direction. Sounds like a gimmick, right? Think again; here is how it works.

CrabWalk works with the 4-Wheel Steer system, which enables the maneuvering flexibility of CrabWalk. At low speeds up to 25 mph, CrabWalk turns the rear wheels at the same angle as the front wheels, allowing the vehicle to move diagonally to help traverse tight maneuvers.
For further assistance, the Surround View Monitor helps with visualizing your CrabWalk maneuver. You get a full view of where the wheels are positioned and the obstacle you need to get around. Obviously, to get the view, make sure you are in CrabWalk mode on the screen.

There are many examples of how CrabWalk works. Parallel parking has always been a challenge for us. You know you have enough space in the spot, but getting into it can be quite a chore. By pushing the CrabWalk button with some action from the steering wheel, you can get into that parking space just right.
Obstacles come in various shapes and forms. In town, you sometimes have to maneuver around downed garbage bins, parked cars, and piles of branches to get through alleyways. CrabWalk can assist in getting you around those obstacles, as long as there is just enough space to execute the maneuvers.
Where CrabWalk truly comes into its own is away from the road. Tight trails and obstacles in the woods can be a challenge for a lot of drivers. When the conditions are right, CrabWalk can get you around that tight spot to get out of harm’s way.

As additional proof that CrabWalk is not a gimmick, an automotive website called The Drive was at an event for the new 2025 GMC Sierra EV. It said that the feature on the electric pickup truck was “good.” You can get CrabWalk on the 2025 GMC Hummer EV Pickup Truck, Hummer EV SUV, and Sierra EV. But don’t just take The Drive’s word for it. Valley GMC is available to show you how this great feature works. Contact us for a demonstration soon and decide for yourself if CrabWalk is a gimmick.
