2026 Terrain AT4 Embodies GMC Professional Grade
The compact crossover segment is the industry’s best-selling category, and nearly every manufacturer has its own take on it, including GMC with the Terrain. The Terrain checks all the compact crossover boxes, including seating four comfortably and five reasonably, configurable cargo space, a fuel-efficient engine, and available all-wheel drive. But lately, GMC has taken additional steps to ensure the Terrain meets the brand’s “Professional Grade” standard, and Valley GMC is here to tell you what they are.

GMC took the first step for the 2025 model year by adopting a front-end styling that features a large, vertical grille and C-shaped lighting signatures, which closely resemble those of the similarly sized Canyon pickup truck series. That update also included an all-new interior featuring a 15-inch center touchscreen and an 11-inch driver display. Additional convenience and safety features include up to eight available camera perspectives, 5G Wi-Fi connectivity, and a windshield wiper de-icing grid.

The Terrain was available only in the Elevation trim for 2025, but an AT4 model has been added for 2026. Anyone familiar with GMC nomenclature recognizes AT4 as a model with increased off-road capability, and that is precisely how it is applied to the 2026 Terrain. The model comes standard with all-wheel drive. Beyond that, the most fundamental change is literally where the rubber meets the road, with General Grabber all-terrain tires featuring plenty of sidewall on 17-inch wheels. Other changes include bespoke off-road tuning of its suspension, a steel skid plate, a new Terrain drive mode, and red recovery hooks up front.

The new Terrain mode, found on other GMC vehicles like the Hummer EV and Canyon AT4X, enables one-pedal driving for smoother and easier crawling over rough surfaces. It helps the Terrain traverse over unpaved surfaces that would have been challenging in previous models, though hard-core off-roading is still best left to the Canyon or Sierra AT4 models.
The 2026 retains the 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-4 engine that produces 175 hp and 203 lb-ft of peak torque. Paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, the vehicle is EPA-estimated to achieve 24 mpg city, 26 mpg highway, and 25 mpg combined fuel economy. For those more interested in on-road comfort, a Denali model has also been added to the model line, featuring attractive 19-inch wheels, a surround-vision camera system, an available panoramic sunroof, and other luxury features.

Thus, there is three times as much Terrain to cover at Valley GMC than last year, so come visit us and give the Terrain a test drive.
