2025 GMC Yukon Diesel Tackles Long Drives

The GMC Yukon is one of the top SUVs on the market. Not only does it have one of the most recognizable names, but it also boasts incredible usability and durability for families that require a vehicle capable of hauling up to eight passengers in comfort and style across its three spacious rows of seats.
Trim Levels, Pricing, and Cargo Space
Customers can choose from three different trim levels for the GMC Yukon, including the base Elevation, AT4, and Denali. The AT4 and Denali also feature an additional trim level called Ultimate, whichadds even more standard features. Pricing starts from $71,795 for the Elevation. Where the Yukon really sets itself apart from the competition is in its overall size and cargo space. With 25.5 cubic feetof cargo space behind the third row, the GMC is larger than the Ford Expedition. Stowing the third row yields 72.6 cu.ft., which is more than both the Ford and the Jeep Wagoneer, and this trend continues when you fold the second row, providing owners with a total of 122.9 cu.ft. of cargo space.
A Great Selection of Engines
Buyers can also choose between three different engines, with the standard being the well-loved 5.3-liter Vortec V8 that produces 355 horsepower and 385 lb-ft of torque. Stepping up to the 6.2-liter V8 gets you 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque. Finally, there is the 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel inline-six that delivers 305 horsepower and a whopping 495 lb-ft of torque. No matter the engine chosen, each one is paired with a smooth and smart 10-speed automatic transmission that not only optimizes fuel efficiency but also makes it the perfect companion for towing.
In a recent review by Car and Driver, writer Jonathon Ramsey tested the Yukon AT4 with its diesel engine, which he found to be absolutely stellar for long-range trips when you compare the fuel economy of all three engines.
What Car and Driver Had to Say
“The diesel’s riposte is sensational endurance: 22 mpg combined, according to the EPA, besting the four-wheel-drive 5.3-liter V-8 model by 5 mpg and the 6.2-liter by 6 mpg. In our 75-mph highway fuel-economy testing, the diesel gapped the big V-8 even more so, 27 mpg to 20 mpg. With a full 24-gallon tank, the diesel would be 640-plus miles down the highway when the juice dried up, about 160 miles farther than the 6.2-liter. (As yet, we haven’t run a 5.3-liter Yukon through that test.) That’s ample time saved over the life of the vehicle, on top of the money saved from the moment of purchase, since at the time of writing, GMC is taking $1500 off the Yukon’s MSRP when optioned with the 3.0-liter diesel … few full-size SUVs offer a diesel engine. The Yukon is a C/D Editors’ Choice award winner.”

Towing Capacity
For those who really need an SUV to tow with, there aren’t many options like the GMC Yukon, which can handle up to 8,400 lbs when properly equipped. This means that, even when filled with people and cargo, the Yukon will still be able to tow a boat, a jet ski, or even a horse.
The Best Tech Features for Passengers
Drivers will not only love the comfort and ease of driving long distances in the Yukon. The technology it offers is top-notch, second to none, with a 16.8-inch infotainment touchscreen display with Google Built-In featuring standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus an 11.0-inch digital gauge cluster display. Front occupants also get a wireless charger to keep their phones topped up.Second-row passengers get an 8-inch screen that allows them to adjust climate control settings, and the optional rear-seat media system adds individual 12.6-inch displays that can stream content individually and feature two HDMI ports for plugging in game consoles or laptops.
Super Cruise Is Unmatched
You cannot talk about a GMC Yukon without mentioning one of the most game-changing pieces of driving technology that has ever been developed. That is Super Cruise. With Super Cruise, drivers can completely take their hands off the wheel and let the car do all the work. Want to change lanes? Simply use your turn signal and allow the Yukon to safely move over for you. With more than 750,000 miles of mapped roads between the United States and Canada, there is no better hands-free driving technology on the market.
